Open Access Journals: SAGE-Hindawi

Over citeulike I found an ad  about open access journals. So, I took a look at what its site is covering and here I am sharing with you what I found.

Hindawi Publishing Corporation  publishes a collection of peer-reviewed, open access journals covering around 100 journals in different disciplines, such as  Chemistry, Computer Science, Engineering, Geosciences, Medicine, Neuroscience, Agriculture, Biology, Dentistry, Ecology, Materials Science, Mathematics, Pharmacology, Physics. The good part of the story is that these journals are open access ones and distributed under the “Creative Commons Attribution License, which permits unrestricted use, distribution, and reproduction in any medium, provided the original work is properly cited”. Yet, none of these journals covers anthropological, sociological or psychological areas. On the other hand, Hindawi encourages submitting any proposals for new journal  where you can check it here

According to its website,

Hindawi is actively expanding its open access journal collection, and welcomes proposals for new open access journals in all areas of science, technology, and medicine.

I am wondering if they consider the fields of anthropology, sociology and psychology as part of science or not since these areas are not covered in their journals!

Hindawi Publishing Corporation is a rapidly growing open access publisher, with offices in Cairo, Egypt.  According to its website, in 2007, Hindawi entered into a publishing partnership with SAGE Publications in order to jointly develop a collection of open access journals, which are hosted on the SAGE-Hindawi platform. You can find a list of their open access journals here also none of them covers any areas in social science so far.

I am not sure if anyone learnt about it  before or not…For me, it was the first time to know about their existence.
