Conferences for Anthropology Bloggers!
2009 January 10
An idea came into my mind today and I would like to share it with all of you…Why not to create a conference for anthropology bloggers? I did not hear about any before so if someone did please let us know. It will be awesome to establish annual conferences for anthropology bloggers from all over the world…I am quite sure if the idea is acceptable by many, we will figure out how to arrange it and what type of difficulties might face us…Looking forward to hear your comments

Yes, that would be fun! Can you tell us more about your idea? What should be the focus of such a conference? I think that travel costs will be one of the obstacles. Maybe one could arrange them as a side event of other conferences. I remember that there were some blogger meetings at the annual meetings of the American and the German anthropological association.
Thank you for your comment.I agree with you Lorenz that the traveling cost is the most problematic issue. As a start, Is it a good idea to make it online, for instance, via skype or something similar?
Online? Hm, in some way, we’re already conferencing. Our blogging and the continuous communication between bloggers in the blogosphere can be seen as an ongoing conference?
An online conference could make a lot of sense. In addition to our ongoing conversations, we could plan a series of focused papers with a clear theme. Papers could be presented through videoconference with a question period at the end of each presentation.
In fact, it could be useful to have specific panels, with participants in the panel exchanging papers in advance.
To make this more formal, we could arrange to have conference rooms at different universities.
Otherwise, there could be blogging interest groups at different academic conferences. Or informal gatherings on the side of academic events.
Thanks Lorenz and Alex for the comments. The videoconference is a good idea and I would add we can post the papers at the end on a blog. Hope to hear more ideas…
Sign me up. I’d love to try giving an online presentation dealing with my research – I know the media anthropology network was discussing changing up its format, maybe they would be interested in something like this too.
Following Enkerli’s idea of using university rooms, it sure would be a great way to show all the anti-technology teachers wants up! We can invade the real world! lol
